About PhD Program

The Objective of the doctoral program is to provide opportunities for quality research for aspiring researchers and academicians. The researcher is expected to become familiar with a range of research methods, and to develop a background in his chosen domain of subjects and their functional areas.

A PhD is a doctoral research degree and the highest level of academic qualification you can achieve. The degree normally takes between three and four years of full-time work towards a thesis offering an original contribution to your subject.

Admission to the Ph.D. program shall be made twice a year, preferably in the Beginning of each semester. Coursework, participation various interactions, reporting progress through presentations, etc. is mandatory during the program. Minimum duration for Ph.D. is 3 years including courses and maximum duration is 6 years.

Geeta University encourages interdisciplinary research and exchange of ideas and knowledge in various related fields. Consequently, an academician from the external University may be appointed as a Co-Guide to the PhD scholar as per University rules. The main Guide for the PhD scholar during the PhD program will be from Geeta University, appointed according to research topic and availability of Guide.

Eligibilty

A candidate shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program, if he/she possesses:

  1. A Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree  by the corresponding statutory  regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in  aggregate  or  its  equivalent  grade  ‘B’  in  the  UGC’s  7-point  scale  (or  an equivalent grade in a point  scale wherever the grading system is followed), or an equivalent  degree  from  a  foreign  educational  Institution  accredited  by  an Assessment  and  Accreditation  Agency  which  is  approved,  recognized  or authorized  by an authority, established or incorporated under  a law in its home country,  or  any  other  statutory  authority  in  that  country  for  the  purpose  of assessing,  accrediting  or  assuring  quality  and  standards  of  educational institutions.
  2. A  relaxation  of  5%  of  marks,  from  55%  to  50%,  or  an  equivalent  relaxation  of grade,  may  be  allowed  for  the  candidates  belonging to  SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy  layer)/Differently-abled and  other categories of candidates as per the decision of the  University  Grants  Commission  from  time  to  time,  or  for  those  who  had obtained  their  Master’s  degree  prior  to  19th  September,  1991.  The eligibility marks  of  55%  (or  an  equivalent  grade  in  a point  scale  wherever  the  grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the  categories mentioned above are  permissible  only  on  the  basis of  the  qualifying marks  without  including  the grace mark procedures.
  3. The  cases  of  candidates  who  have  passed  an  examination  outside  the  Indian Universities  system and those who may not have obtained a Master’s degree may be considered for  admission to the program subject to the condition that each case  shall  be  examined  on  its  own  merit  by  the  Admissions  Committee  and  in accordance with the recommendations of the Equivalence Committee.
  4. The  candidates  who  have  qualified  the  UGC/CSIR-JRF/NET/SLET/GATE  shall  be exempted  from  appearing  in  the  written  entrance  examination  and  have  to  appear  in  the interview

Procedure for Admission:

The  University  shall  conduct  an  Entrance  Test,  with  the  qualifying  marks  as  50%  (FOR ALL CETEGORY) in the Entrance examination conducted by the University. 

The syllabus for the Entrance Test shall consist of: 

Research methodology (20%), Aptitude (20%), IT Skill (20%), and subject-specific (40%). The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the Centre/online/ notified in advance by the University. 

The  admission  shall  be  based  on  the  performance  of  the  qualified  candidates  in  the Interview/viva-voce to  be organized by the concerned DRC where the candidates shall be required to discuss their research interest/  area through a  Brief  Presentation before  the Departmental Research Committee.

Provided that for selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in the Interview/ viva-voce shall be given.
